Gregory W. Sandford is a professor and Chair of the History Department at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. Previously he served for eighteen years as a diplomat in the US State Department with postings in East Berlin and Munich, Germany and in South Africa. He also lived and worked as an exchange student in East Germany while researching his doctoral dissertation, published in 1983 under the title From Hitler to Ulbricht: The Communist Reconstruction of East Germany, 1945-46.
